Women’s Discussion

  • Congratulations to first time Nationals qualifiers Dallas Dimes!1 They left no doubt, taking down Colorado Kelp twice at Regionals — the second time on universe in the game-to-go — to secure their bid to San Diego.
  • In the Southwest, Flipside leap Nightlock after upsetting the region’s second bid earner on universe in semifinals. Nightlock did secure their own spot at Nationals, defeating LOL 15-12 in the game-to-go.
  • Heartbreak for Traffic, who were the last team outside strength bid range at the end of the regular season, and then fell on universe to Schwa in the Northwest game-to-go. They’re up into the top 15 for their efforts.
  • Heist are the other big risers from the weekend, slotting behind Pop after the two played to universe in the North Central final. Pop took the win and the lone bid, reversing their fortunes from last season.
  • It was Canada-on-Canada violence in the Northeast backdoor bracket, where Stella shocked Iris 12-9, the first time the Ottowans had ever beaten the team from Quebec. This paved the way for Starling’s path to their first Nationals qualification, and they take their rightful spot at the top of the trio.

Men’s Discussion

  • Sockeye, Truck Stop, and Ring of Fire all drop after taking losses in their regional final. Ring’s loss to Chain Lightning and Sockeye’s to Rhino Slam! are not outlandish — though the five point gap between Sockeye and Rhino may raise an eyebrow — but this is the first time Truck Stop have not won the Mid-Atlantic since the region’s formation, particularly heinous Nor’easter weather aside.
  • Speaking of the Mid-Atlantic, Vault re-enter the rankings after notching back-to-back universe point wins over Oak Grove Boys and Temper to reach the game-to-go, where they put up nine points on Truck Stop.
  • Dark Star and Raleigh-Durham United were Nationals hopefuls, sitting one seed down of their region’s last bid earner and hoping to steal one. Neither were successful — Dark Star fell 15-11 to Furious George in the Northwest game-to-go, but RDU bowed out much earlier, losing on universe to Florida Untied in backdoor quarters. Untied went on to lose to baNC, who then lost to Ring of Fire in the Southeast game-go-go and earn a spot in the top 25 for their run.
  • Condors also join the rankings after pushing reigning Club and World Champions Revolver in the Southwest final. Condors had the disc with a chance to tie the game at 12 before ultimately ceding the game 15-13.
  • Mephisto are the lone bid stealers from the past weekend in the men’s division, squeaking past Red Tide on universe before displacing Sprout in the Northeast game-to-go to qualify for their first Club Championships.

Mixed Discussion

  • Tower, shame., Scorch, and Port Authority all rise in the rankings after winning their regions. Scorch and Port Authority were some of the stories of the weekend, both qualifying for their first Club Championships after taking down Mixtape and AMP, respectively, in the regional final. Last year’s Mid-Atlantic champs Rally will not see the fields of San Diego after taking a shocking four-point loss to Port Authority in semis before losing to AMP in the game-to-go.
  • Slow, Burrito, and Mixtape took the second bid out of their regions in close contests. Slow played XIST within two in the Northeast Regional final before beating Sprocket on universe in the game-to-go and move up closer to the New York squad, while Burrito upset the higher-seeded Polar Bears on universe to make their first Club Championships.
  • Mixtape meanwhile have one of the biggest jumps of the week after toppling BFG in the Northwest game-to-go for the second year in a row.
  • Mischief, Space Force, and Sego join Rally, BFG, and Sprocket in the tier of teams whose seasons ended at regionals. Neither Sego nor Space Force reached the game-to-go — Sego, the second bid earner in the Northwest, finished ninth after back-to-back upset losses to Lights Out and MOONDOG, while Space Force cede their ranking to a Roma Ultima team that got past ‘Shine and pushed Toro to universe in the Southeast final.
