Where Saturday saw a litany of unpredictable results and wild reshuffling of the pools in the women’s division at Presidents’ Day Invite, Sunday was a return to form for the most part. So what better way to celebrate that return to form than a return to format with the tried and true Stock Watch to summarize all that went down on Sunday in San Diego? There’s a lot to unpack from all the games, so grab your favorite investing app and snuggle up with the USAU score reporter page as we dive into all that happened on Day Two of Pres Day.

UC Santa Cruz
This tournament is headlined by three teams in the top five of the power rankings all of whom have gone through the tournament without suffering a loss, and yet, for some reason, #16 UC Santa Cruz Sol are still the most exciting part of Pres Day. The semis round is going to feature the #1 seed, #2 seed, #3 seed, and… Sol, the #9 seed. Of course UC Santa Cruz’s rise here is more interesting than the rest. Investing in Sol now is like when everyone was investing in Netflix before streaming blew up, and HBO, Disney, and Hulu were all throwing a tantrum over it. UC Santa Cruz doesn’t have the prestige of the other programs they’re going to face in semis, but what they’ve shown just gets the people excited. It all centers around their offense. In fact, UC Santa Cruz’s entire gameplan really relies on their offense to be close to perfect. They don’t really win blowout games because they’re still finding a way to unlock the offensive potential of their defensive unit. That’ll come with time. For now, it’s just enough to watch Rachel Chang, Kai Agueros, and Lexie Buckley carve through opposing defenses. Santa Cruz will have an admittedly tough path now that they’ve made it to semis, but they were the most fun team to root for on Sunday.
UBC
Getting invested in #2 UBC Thunderbirds at this point is a bit like getting into Bitcoin at the peak of its popularity.
