Over the weekend on a live video call with World Games local organizing committee member and ultimate organizer Kenio (Muye) Yao, WFDF Vice President Brian Gisel and Ultiworld editor Charlie Eisenhood randomly drew the pools for this summer’s 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China.
The eight teams were initially ranked based on the results of the previous World Games (and by the WFDF world rankings for the teams that did not attend). The ranking was as follows:
#1: United States
#2: Australia
#3: Colombia
#4: Germany
#5: Japan
#6: France
#7: Canada
#8: China
The top two teams — USA and Australia — were placed into pools A and B, respectively, and then each of the following pairs of teams was randomly selected into one of the two pools. That yielded the following pools:

Starting on August 12th, each team will play one game each day. The first three days of competition will be filled with round robin pool play, with the top two teams in each pool advancing to the semifinals. The semis and finals will round out the final two days of competition (along with consolation games).
The first game of the tournament — set for 10:00 AM China Standard Time on August 12th (that’s August 11th at 7 PM PT / 10 PM ET for the North American audience) — will be the United States v. Japan.
The full game schedule will be up on the World Games website soon. Every game from the tournament will be broadcasted live on The World Games Live streaming platform.
