A peculiar format for NorCal Mixed Sectionals meant two separate rounds of pool play on Saturday and led to many teams having multiple byes. This also meant games began as early as 8:30 AM and finished after 6 PM. Central Valley heat in Tracy and no shade led to lots of cramping, and marathon windy points did not help. Strong crosswind affected games Saturday and lots of teams played against zone for the first time this season. Winds started to turn to up/downwind on Sunday.

Historically a Bay Area party team, it seems like Classy may be turning a corner competitively. Classy upset Polar Bears in pool play — going up several breaks early before PBR went on a late run. A marathon universe point with multiple turns and an injury call saw Classy win Round 1. It would be almost the opposite storyline in the rematch in the tournament final. PBR, feeling hot after upsetting top-seed Mischief in the quarterfinals, went up big on Classy as the wind shifted from crosswind to up/downfield. With the help of a rowdy sideline featuring a team DJ, Classy began to rally back earning multiple turns and the offense finding their groove again. The tides felt like they could turn but PBR demonstrated outstanding goal line defense to prevent the upwind breaks late in the game. Active handling from Margot (Radar) Stert kept the disc swinging until a shot to a full extension layout by Molly Hallweaver sealed the game in a Polar Bears win.

Standout players from Sectional final:

PBR: Molly Hallweaver, Margot Stert, Sam and Paige Applegate, Aaron Shi
Classy: Joel Anton, Crystal Alton, Tyler Condit
