Bracket play at the 2021 College Championships kicked off with this barn burner in the Division I women’s prequarterfinal. Chicago Supernova seemed to be the queens of playing tight games, with three of their four pool play games being decided by 1 point. It was clear providence that their bracket game should end up tied with one point left to play. Lining up across the field from them, was Virginia Hydra, who looked strong after finishing 3-1 in their pool. In their 10th nationals appearance, Hydra brought plenty of institutional experience at this event, although their last quarterfinals appearance was back in 2017. Chicago, meanwhile, had never even attended college nationals previously, so making the bracket was all the more impressive for this Great Lakes squad.
