Wesleyan coach and 2025 COTY Keith Raynor takes questions about his championship season.
June 26, 2025 by Keith Raynor in Interview, Profile

For the 2025 college season, I was fortunate enough to join Wesleyan Vicious Circles to compete in the Women’s Division III, where we won the national championship. It was both my first season with the team, although I’ve been coaching for about 15 years, and their first time having a formal coach, even though the program is almost 30 years old.
Our subscribers in Discord expressed interest in a Question & Answer session about my experience this season. Below are both the questions and my responses (and those of a few guests!). Some have been lightly edited for clarity, copy, and to match our style guide. I also have had added some [Post-Edit] notes in places.
How does it feel to coach the best team out of the Metro East in college history? – Chris
Keith: I won’t lie, finding out afterwards that we were the first Metro East team to win it was pretty sweet. I played in the old ME, I’ve coached for years in the ME, I’ve had to endure all the slander.
To do it in a year when there were four ME teams at D-III Nationals and all of them made the bracket, all the better.
I’d love your thoughts on recruiting and retaining women players. – Sam
Keith: It was my first year at Wesleyan, so not something I can speak to as it pertains to this season, but I certainly have dealt with recruiting and retention in my other stops. [Post-edit: This is my 14th full season coaching in the college women’s division, including at UConn, Emory, and Georgia Tech.]
