#1 Carleton Syzygy and #3 Oregon Ego both held their opponents, #4 Santa Cruz Sol and #2 Colorado Mamabird, to single-digit goals en route to securing their second tournament titles already this season. Syzygy quickly jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the early women’s final, but turns aplenty provided Sol with ample opportunities to close the distance. Despite the frequent crossover of Zane Bird Smith, Viola Deszily, Goodness Nwakudu and Rachel Chang, however, just one break was scored against the defensive wall that Carleton’s Chloe Hakimi, Naomi Fina, and Chagall Gelfand presented after a turn.

After Sol broke to claw within 5-4, Syzygy went on a three goal run that buried any doubt about the game’s outcome. Carleton never surrendered another break as they closed the contest on a 8-3 run.

The men’s final followed a similar trajectory, but under vastly different circumstances. While wind had swirled in the women’s game, it built to a steady gust. The accompanying rain severely limited the viability of Colorado’s deep shots, while Oregon’s Mica Glass and Raekwon Adkins were able to feast with a blistering small-ball game. Oregon opened with a clean that blossomed into a 3-0 lead, and while Colorado would pull within two, from then Oregon’s victory never truly seemed in doubt.

Ego took half 7-4 and then held ‘Bird to just two scores in the second, putting away the game 13-6 and avenging last Nationals’ semifinal loss. This capped an impressive tournament for Oregon, a 7-0 run through five Top 25 teams that will assuredly see them claim a top two spot in this week’s Power Rankings.
