#1 Carleton Syzygy retained their top spot with a tournament win at Northwest Challenge. A gathering of many of the top teams in the country, Syzygy knocked off #6 Washington Element (in the final 15-11), #5 Tufts EWO (in the semifinal 15-12), and most notably #4 British Columbia Thunderbirds (in the quarterfinal 15-14).

Day one was filled with upsets. #8 North Carolina Pleiades took down #3 Stanford Superfly in pool play, and Washington also upset UBC. Unranked Michigan Flywheel took down #11 Victoria Vikes, and Tufts defeated #7 Colorado Quandary, who were seeded above them. Bridget Mizener was on the ground covering the tournament. You can read her Day One recap of all of these upsets here.

The bracket featured more upsets (Tufts over Stanford!, UNC over Colorado!) and several universe point games. There were too many ranked teams in action also playing (#12 Western Washington Chaos, #14 Oregon Fugue, and #20 Vermont Ruckus) to talk about them all. Stay tuned for Mizener’s full recap coming later this week. In the meantime, you can watch 13 filmed games from the tournament in our Video Library.
