TAMPA — As we all expected, an undefeated team won’t be competing for the title on Sunday at Warm Up. But it’s not BYU we’re talking about.
After going 6-0 in match play and defeating Auburn in the quarterfinals 13-6, Massachusetts forfeited their semifinals game against Pittsburgh that was scheduled for 10 AM Sunday because they booked their flights back home for 1 PM in order to save money. UMass ends the weekend with one quality win — a 12-10 victory over Pitt.
The other semifinal also won’t take place tomorrow. After defeating Minnesota in the quarters 15-14 on universe, Northeastern, who had already removed a number of players from the tournament due to a positive COVID test, got additional positive tests and withdrew from the event. Their semifinals opponent, Brown, advances to face Pitt in the final.
The Quarterfinals Results
Massachusetts 13-6 Auburn
Pittsburgh 14-12 Florida
Northeastern 15-14 Minnesota
Brown 15-5 Georgia State
