High School Power Rankings: Post-YULA & RCC Edition [3/24/25]

Which teams are the early favorites for HSNI bids?

Welcome to the second edition of the 2025 High School Power Rankings! The rankings can be permanently found on our Youth Rankings page.

Because many youth teams have not played yet this season, these rankings should be considered preliminary and will change during the course of the spring. The rankings will eventually be used to determine invitations to the 2025 High School National Invite; currently, we plan to use the rankings published the week of May 19th as the final rankings before final bids are sent out (many bids will be sent out on a rolling basis).

If you have additional information about tournaments or team strength that you would like to be considered for the High School Power Rankings, please email [email protected].

Teams, if you would like to add logos and team information to your Team Pages, follow these instructions!

Without further ado, here are the Top 25 teams in the Boys’ and Girls’ High School Divisions!

Notes

  • Congratulations to #1 Jackson-Reed and #8 RECA for winning the YULA Invite and River Campus Classic, respectively, and earning invitations to the 2025 HSNI! We knew Jackson-Reed was going to be very strong this year, and their absolutely smothering performance at YULA pushes them easily to #1 in the nation. They obliterated Wissahickon 13-4 in the final and never played a game closer than four goals. RECA dropped a game to Lakeside (and J-R) earlier at QCTU but looked strong at RCC, getting a statement 11-6 win over Edina in semis.
  • #7 JR Masterman put up the best fight against Jackson-Reed and beat Wissahickon last week at a small event in Pennsylvania.
  • Keep in mind — windy conditions had a big impact on games this weekend and helped lead to some outlier results.
  • Lots of new teams to the rankings this week! Welcome in #18 Independence, #20 Chapel Hill, #21 Athens Drive, #22 Midtown, and #23 Edwardsville. All of the teams had strong showings this weekend at YULA and RCC. Shout out to Edwardsville in particular for surprising everyone with a strong weekend and making their Power Rankings debut.
  • Expect more volatility in these rankings! Many teams have yet to play, and there’s less of a defined hierarchy this season. Aside from a couple of strong teams, there is a lot of parity through the middle of the rankings.

Notes

  • Congratulations to #10 Strath Haven and #16 Holy Family Catholic for winning YULA and RCC, respectively, and earning invitations to the 2025 HSNI! Strath Haven dominated everyone up until the final, where they still comfortably handled #13 Jordan by four goals. HFC played some tight games, including a one-point win over #17 Edina.
  • Competition has gotten started in the Washington state league — so far, things have mostly gone to expectations, but Nathan Hale played within a goal of Garfield to jump into the top 25. Hale finished 4th in last year’s final post-season Power Rankings but graduated a lot of talent. Perhaps they’ve reloaded stronger than expected!
  • We might have missed on #19 El Cerrito out of California in our preseason top 25. They have dominated local competition and have their eyes set on a strong showing at Spaghetti Western in a little over a month.
  • Along with HFC and El Cerrito, Midtown enters the top 25 this week after finishing third at RCC, just ahead of in-state rival Decatur.
  • We expect a lot more volatility in these rankings as more teams start their state seasons in the next few weeks!

Looking Ahead

This weekend, we’ve got the girls division of the Seattle Invite! Along with lots of top WA teams, South Eugene (OR) and Paideia (GA) will make the trip for a powerhouse tournament. The winner will clinch an HSNI berth.

We’ve got some other important tournaments on the horizon as well, like Born to Dive in two weeks, which will see lots of top boys teams from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York take the field.

And lots of additional teams will start their state seasons in the coming weeks!
