Women’s Discussion

  • Just one move this week, but it feels like a big one: Molly Brown drop out of the top five following their 15-11 semifinal loss to Riot at Pro Champs. With Riot’s two losses to Nightlock, it felt like Molly had to move down rather than Riot bump up. This is Molly’s first time outside the top five all season, but we also had them ranked outside the top 5 last September, right before Molly went on their thrilling run to the national semifinal.

Men’s Discussion

  • Truck Stop are the big winners from Pro Champs, securing the dirty hold to beat Ring of Fire on universe in the final. While neither DiG nor Sub Zero were in attendance, this feels like a return to form for Truck, and paired with their US Open win over DiG, sees DC leap the absent squads.
  • Chain Lightning got their revenge for a universe loss in the ESC final, beating Pacman in the third-place game to also move ahead in the rankings.
  • With only one win on the weekend, Mephisto played themselves out of a strength bid at Pro Champs, and out of the teens in the rankings. Luckily, Red Tide were right behind to scoop up the third bid for the Northeast. As is always the case in the NE, it’s sure to be an exciting regionals.
  • Welcome to the rankings Florida Untied! Untied make their season debut in the top 25 with wins over Doublewide and Vault. They replace a Sprout team that has not yet collected a win over a ranked team, and drop Vault to the last spot.

Mixed Discussion

  • Austin Disco Club pulled off what some are calling the upset of the season, taking down Hybrid 15-13 in the Pro Champs final. While there was talk of knocking Hybrid from the top spot, the ranking committee was swayed by the fact that most top mixed teams have a “bad” loss, and the fact that moving Hybrid down would put them below XIST, who haven’t quite yet figured out the Ann Arbor puzzle. Disco will have to settle for the biggest rise of the week.
  • Speaking of bad/weird losses, Drag’n Thrust’s loss to Toro was tough to weigh against their wins over shame. and Slow. Pit them against shame. and Slow’s results though – a close win over Sprocket and two universe point losses to Sprocket, respectively – and Drag’n gain the head-to-head advantage.
  • Not too much shade on Toro though, whose close losses to Hybrid, shame., and Slow pair with the aforementioned win to see them up four spots.
  • There was also discussion of removing Odyssée from the rankings after learning they are not planning to play the Series, but without an obvious candidate to replace them, we will wait for inevitable Sectionals shenanigans to usurp Montreal’s record.
