D-I Women’s
Venus Victorious
Host #9 Pennsylvania Venus took home the tournament title with an undefeated weekend at East Coast Invite. Penn beat #16 Northeastern Valkyries 10-3 in the final after overcoming #23 Wisconsin Bella Donna 11-10 in a tight semifinal.
Wisconsin went on to beat #22 Georgetown Huckin Foyas in the third place game, which could impact the bid picture in the women’s division. Entering Sunday play, Georgetown was about 40 rankings points below #20 Notre Dame Echo for the final strength bid to Nationals.
Windy conditions made normal-looking ultimate a challenge. Teams who excelled at zone, punting, and catching bladey or contested discs tended to succeed. People who just love shouting “set it!” on the sideline had a field day. Of course, wind also kept the scoring output down. In only one out of 32 Sunday games did the winning team make it to the score cap of 15.1
Aidan Thomas and Zack Davis were covering the tournament. You can read their Day One Recap, and stay tuned for a full tournament recap coming later this week. In the meantime, you can watch 10 filmed games from the tournament in our Video Library.

D-I Men’s
Mamagain
#1 Colorado Mamabird defended their top spot in the rankings by winning Easterns. Mamabird’s tough defense and daring throws through a gusty final gave them an early lead over #2 Carleton CUT, but CUT came back in the second half to force universe before succumbing to Colorado. Tobias Brooks, Declan Miller, Elliot Hawkins, Axel Olson, Ryan Shigley, and Nate De Morgan all made strong cases for end of season awards with stellar play throughout the weekend.
#3 Oregon Ego gave CUT a scare of their own in their semifinal matchup, coming back from a 14-11 deficit to force universe point themselves. Playing again without Mica Glass, Oregon relied on Raekwon Adkins and rookie Owen Sprauge to drive their offense. Alex Hall-Witt had one of the highlight plays of the tournament, catching the centering pass on his own pull for a callahan to force universe.
#4 North Carolina Darkside was the fourth semifinalist, overcoming #6 Cal Poly SLO SLOCORE in pool play to get the inside track at favorable bracket matchups.
The biggest risers from the weekend were #16 Penn State Spank and #21 North Carolina-Wilmington Seamen, the only teams outside the top eight seeds to make it to the championship bracket. In pool play, PSU upset #7 Oregon State Beavers and Wilmington took down #8 Western Washington DIRT and #9 Pittsburgh En Sabah Nur.

D-III Women’s
Vicious Defeats
The champs have been dethroned. At the windy East Coast Invite, #1 Wesleyan Vicious Circles lost to both #2 Middlebury Pranksters and #3 Haverford and Bryn Mawr Sneetches. While Middlebury snuck by with a one goal win, the Sneetches crushed Wesleyan 10-5! That’s their biggest loss since losing by the same margin to D-I Georgia Athena at this same tournament last season, and their largest loss within the D-III division since the 2024 College Championships.
Middlebury also beat #4 Carleton Eclipse in a streamed game to end the regular season with a very solid claim to the top seed at Nationals. In D-III specific matchups, Haverford and Bryn Mawr also beat Eclipse and #11 Mount Holyoke Daisy Chain and lost only to tournament finalist (and D-I team) Northeastern; the Sneetches finished 5th at this D-I tournament. If Wesleyan looked to be unbeatable before this weekend, it is clear that at least Middlebury and HBM have the attributes to take them down.
#10 Kenyon Blu-Ray had a rough time in their D-III games, losing to #15 Wellesley Whiptails and #19 Williams Nova. However, their performance against D-I teams slotted them in a favorable bracket spot, so they finished 11th, ahead of both teams3

Lehigh Gravity also made the semifinal round, losing to Rochester, but recovered to beat Amherst for third.
- #7 St. Olaf Vortex won Needle in A Ho-Stack, going undefeated and beating Tennessee in the tournament final. #18 Oberlin Preying Manti won out the fifth-place bracket to break seed by nine. Davidson People’s DUFF opened up the weekend with a win over Berry, but took losses to Oberlin and St. Olaf en route to holding seed.
- Bates Cold Front finished fifth at the D-I tournament New England Open. Bates took down Bowdoin Chaos Theory in the 5th/6th game. Brandeis Banshee beat Clark Joan of Clark to finish seventh, while Smith Luna Disc placed ninth.
- #9 Macalester Pursesnatchers made the final at Old Capitol Open, but lost 8-7 to D-I Kansas, the only team they lost to at the tournament. #16 Winona State Bad Monaz lost to Macalester for the second time that weekend in the semifinal, 10-7, in what could be a preview of the North Central game-to-go. Grinnell Grinneleanor Roosevelts and St. Thomas Lavender Haze finished in consolation play.
- Truman State TSUnami finished sixth at Corny Classic College after making the bracket. Knox Alley Cats and North Park Allihopa were set to meet in consolation play, but Allihopa did not play Sunday.
- Georgia College Lynx Rufus made the semifinals of Southerns. Lynx beat Georgia B Medusa to claim third and revenge for a one-point loss in crossover play the day before.

D-III Men’s
No Joke: Pranksters Win Easterns
It will come as no surprise that #1 Middlebury Pranksters went undefeated to win the D-III division at Easterns, which has become a marquee event at the close of the season. Peter Mans, Geir Hartl, and Louis Douville Beaudoin have the Pranksters set up well for another run at a National title.
Their opponent in the final may have come as a surprise. #16 Claremont Braineaters, making a rare visit to the East Coast, upset #10 Bowdoin Clown and #2 Elon Big Fat Bomb in the quarterfinal and semifinal respectively to reach the tournament final where they ultimately sputtered against a well organized Middlebury team. In other words, Claremont’s bracket run came against the top three seeds at the tournament. The backfield duo of Arenaria Cramer and Isamu Sims marched through opponents’ zones while Jacques Paradis and Elijah Axt made their fair share of impressive plays in the deep space. Claremont’s performance almost certainly sealed their spot among the strength bid earners.
Reporter Josh Katz is covering the tournament and will have more to say about ranked teams like #13 Richmond Spidermonkeys, #14 North Carolina-Asheville Mudpuppies, #15 Williams WUFO, #18 Berry Bucks, #20 Wesleyan Nietzch Factor, #23 Brandeis TRON, and #25 Oberlin Flying Horsecows in his tournament recap later this week.

Around the Division
- #6 St. Olaf Berzerkers took ninth place at Huck Finn. Their first round upset over D-I #24 Chicago Fission was one of the most impressive wins for a D-III team this season, but they could not keep that momentum through the rest of their play in Saturday’s power pool. Union Jaxx finished their tournament in the 19th place bracket. Missouri S&T did not report any wins so far (consolation scores are unreported at press time).
- #9 Macalester Flat Earth won Old Capitol Open with an undefeated weekend. Their closest game was a 10-9 win over Iowa IHUC, and their beat fellow D-III teams Wisconsin-Eau Claire EauZone (in the final), Michigan Tech DiscoTech (who finished 7th) and Grinnell Grinnellephants (who finished 4th). Winona State Experience swept through the ninth place bracket, including a win over Minnesota-Duluth Northern Lights, who finished 11th.

- #8 Franciscan Fatal upset D-I North Carolina-Charlotte Skyrise 9-8 in the final to win Needle in a Ho Stack.

- Whitworth Bangarang finished third at Swing by Swing.
