Regionals Results

  • #6 Tufts EWO won New England Regionals, capping their tournament with a 11-8 win over #17 Vermont Ruckus. #16 Northeastern Valkyries was the next expected qualifier, but they lost to UMass Zoola in pool play, setting up a quarterfinal matchup with Vermont. After losing that quarterfinal matchup, Brown Shiver upset the Valkyries in the third place semifinals. Then, in what might be the biggest upset of all time, Vermont B Bruckus upset Brown, winning the third place game 8-7 to become the first B team to earn their spot at the D-I College Championships.
  • For the third straight season, #19 Michigan Flywheel won Great Lakes Regionals with a two-goal win over #18 Notre Dame Echo. This year, the final score was 10-8. After the first 14 points of the game were a parade of downwind holds, Michigan scored upwind to flip the break advantage and build an 8-7 lead. The teams then traded upwind holds until Michigan broke downwind to win after the soft cap horn sounded.
  • Five of the ten teams to compete at Northwest Regionals advanced to Nationals. #4 British Colombia Thunderbirds won the region, finishing their tournament with a 15-7 win over #3 Washington Element. Washington qualified as the second place finisher, beating #12 Oregon Fugue 13-10 in the second place game. Oregon qualified by virtue of making it to that game. #10 Western Washington Chaos finished in fourth place, beating Utah Spiral Jetty 15-7 in second place quarters, which functioned as a game-to-go. Utah fell to the fifth place game, where they lost once again by a 15-7 score to #11 Victoria Vikes, who claimed the last bid to Nationals.
  • #9 Pennsylvania Venus cleaned up the competition at Ohio Valley Regionals. Across their six games, Venus gave up 14 combined points.
  • #5 North Carolina Pleiades won Atlantic Coast Regionals, beating #25 Georgetown Huckin Foyas 15-4 in the final.

Looking Ahead

The D-I College Championships take place in Rockford, Illinois from May 22-25. Stay tuned for full preview and event coverage in the coming weeks.

Regionals Results

  • #4 North Carolina Darkside won their ninth-straight Atlantic Coast Regionals, capping an undefeated weekend with a 15-3 victory over #15 North Carolina-Wilmington Seamen in the final. Wilmington presumably could have played UNC closer, but perhaps was saving their legs for a game-to-go. That strategy did not pay off. Maryland Space Bastards upset UNC-Wilmington 15-14 to take their place at Nationals. This is the first time since 2018 that Maryland qualified for the D-I College Championships.
  • #8 Massachusetts Zoodisc never gave up more than nine points in a single game as they won New England Regionals. #10 Brown Brownian Motion had some scares along the way, but made it to the final to qualify in second place. McGill MUT secured the third bid to Nationals, running through the backdoor bracket with upset wins over Northeastern Huskies and Tufts E-Men. #16 Vermont Chill had been favored to advance, but fell to sixth place after upset losses to Northeastern and Tufts.
  • Like their women’s division counterparts, there were five bids up for grabs at Northwest Regionals. #3 Oregon Ego handily won the region, dispatching #7 Oregon State Beavers 15-10 in the final. OSU went on to claim second place with a 15-10 win of their own over #23 Washington Sundodgers in the second-place game. By making it to that game, Washington qualified as well. #18 Western Washington DIRT finished in fourth, beating Utah Zion Curtain 15-11 in second-place quarters, which served as a game-to-go. Utah had one more shot in the fifth place bracket, and made the most of it by upsetting #25 Utah Valley Ultimate and #19 British Colombia Thunderbirds in consecutive games to make it back to Nationals for the second straight year. #12 Victoria Vikes fell to UBC in the fifth place semifinal, ending the season as the highest ranked team in our Power Rankings not to qualify for Nationals.
  • #14 Pittsburgh En Sabah Nur will be back at Nationals after sweeping Ohio Valley Regionals. Pitt escaped a tight semifinal, beating Temple Alert 15-14, before handling #9 Penn State Spank 15-7 in the final. Penn State also qualified for Nationals, dispatching Ohio State Leadbelly 15-5 in the second-place game.

Looking Ahead

The D-I College Championships take place in Rockford, Illinois from May 22-25. Stay tuned for full preview and event coverage in the coming weeks.

Regionals Results

  • Hillsdale Chargers won a controversial Great Lakes Regionals, taking down Butler Big Dog 15-5 in a dominant final. Over the course of the regular season, Butler was 3-0 in this matchup, but Hillsdale won the game that counted the most. In a windy final, Jedidiah Hamilton took the reigns of the Hillsdale offense and piloted numerous upwind breaks.
  • The controversy came late Saturday night, when Asbury Ultimate and Valparaiso Vult were both disqualified. Valparaiso was light on numbers and asked to play their Saturday afternoon pool play game to halftime instead of the full game. Thinking this would allow them to avoid a forfeit and therefore both remain eligible to play Sunday’s games, both teams agreed to do so. The teams did not consult the Tournament Director on site when making their decision. Unfortunately for them, this change was not allowable per USA Ultimate policy, and the National governing body disqualified both teams. After the fact, Valparaiso offered to forfeit the game so Asbury could continue playing, but by that point the damage was done and the decision was final. While Asbury entered the tournament as the top seed and favorite, they did lose to both Butler and Hillsdale in pool play. Asbury’s graduation took place on Saturday, so the team was missing several key players during those games, but expected their graduating seniors to play on Sunday. Unfortunately for Asbury, they were not allowed to do so as USA Ultimate justifiably stuck to their forfeit policy.
  • #1 Middlebury Pranksters went undefeated to win New England Regionals for the seventh-straight season. #10 Williams WUFO went undefeated until the final, and qualified as the second place finisher by making that game. After losing a tight semifinal to Williams, #12 Bowdoin Clown dominated the third-place bracket to claim the final bid to Nationals.

Looking Ahead

All of the bids to the D-III College Championships have now been decided! The tournament takes place May 16-18 in Waukegan, Illinois. Stay tuned for preview coverage of the biggest event of the D-III season.
