The 2014 Club season is starting to heat up, with lots of teams taking to the field this weekend in various capacities: considering tryouts, getting a first look at the new team, and getting some early-season reps in with the US Open and Pro-Elite Challenge just weeks away.
Here’s a look at this weekend’s results.
MEN’S
Boston Invite
Ottawa Phoenix, after an 0-2 start, rattled off five straight wins to take home the 2014 Boston Invite title.
Phoenix defeated Philadelphia Geno’s 15-12 in the final, avenging a pool play loss.
No Surf
Second-year Michigan club team High Five won their second straight No Surf title with a 15-11 victory over Pittsburgh Club — the new Pitt-based club team.
Eugene Summer Solstice
#1 seed Seattle Voodoo won Solstice this weekend, but not without a fight from Seattle upstart Ghetto Puss, featuring players including Mark Burton and Khalif El-Salaam, who beat them in pool play before falling 15-14 in the finals.
Bravo v. Inception
Denver Johnny Bravo defeated Denver Inception 15-5 in a friendly scrimmage this weekend.
WOMEN’S
Boston Invite
Boston Brute Squad defeated Quebec QUB 15-11 in the Boston Invite finals. New York Bent lost to Brute in the semis, and the Toronto Capitals lost to QUB in the other semi.
Eugene Summer Solstice
San Francisco Fury beat Seattle Riot 15-11 in the Solstice finals in a preview matchup of a potential meeting at the US Open and/or World Club Championships.
MIXED
Boston Invite
Boston Wild Card came away as the putative Boston Invite victor after round robin games left them 6-1, but with a +5 point differential. Toronto UNION and Boston Slow White also finished 6-1 (Wild Card beat Slow White; SW beat Union; Union beat WC).
Fort Collins Summer Solstice
Boulder Love Tractor beat Denver Mesteño 12-11 in the finals of the Fort Collins Summer Solstice.
