Plus a projected team list!

The European Ultimate Federation is planning for a modified club championship this fall. They previously announced that the regional qualifier events would be cancelled due to the COVID-19 global pandemic and that there was a possibility for an extended EUCF (xEUCF) from October 1-4 in Bruges, Belgium. While it is still uncertain whether or not an international ultimate event can be held in October, the EUF is moving forward with plans to hold this larger event and is looking to host 20 mixed, 20 women’s, and 32 open teams. In lieu of regional qualifiers bids have been granted directly to national federations. The bids were distributed with the following bid rules:
- The 2020 bid situation per region after EUCF 2019 for ‘normal’ 2020 divisions1
- Bids are normally given to regions. For 2020, the bids that are granted for each region are designated to countries depending on their finish at last year’s EUCF and EUCR.
- For example, in the mixed division, the central region earned 3 bids here. Since last year the top three teams were Dutch, German and German, the Netherlands is granted one bid and Germany is granted two bids.
- One bid of choice to all the national federations that regularly went to EUF sanctioned adult events in the last year, but never got a bid at EUCF
- A country’s history over the last four EUCF’s
- The 2020 waiting list order (per region), minus the already appointed bids at #2 and #3
The EUF has asked teams to declare their intent and availability for the tournament before July 12. Each national federation is free to award the bids to the clubs as they see fit, but the EUF has suggested that they use their national club championships from 2019 pretty much all countries will not be able to have a formal qualification tournament before the July 12 deadline. The EUF has prepared the following timeline for the event:
July 12 – Participating and waiting list teams fill out a form of interest
July 26 – Waiting list teams are notified if they receive a spot
August 2 – Final decision on holding xEUCF
August 9 – Team fee deadline
August 30 – Player registration and player fees deadline
This resulted in the following bid distribution:

Mixed = 12 bids, Open = 24 bids, Women’s = 16 bids ↩
A previous version of this article showed that Grut would get this bid. However, Grut did not play in the Dutch championship last year. They went to the EUCR through a different EUCR qualifier tournament held in the Netherlands. It is not clear yet if the Dutch federation would use national results from last year or the qualifier results from last year. ↩
Note: a previous version of this article incorrectly had Disc'Over Lisboa in this slot ↩
France had co-champions at last year's national championship as the final was rained out before the game could finish. The French Federation will have a tough decision on how to grant France's sole women's bid ↩
Gentle women were Belgian champions but have already declined their bid. Note a previous version of this article incorrectly placed Flying Rabbits in this slot. ↩
