It may have been a slightly subdued and strange first day in Milwaukee, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t standout performances worth remembering, nor does it dull our innate desire as chroniclers of the event to catalog things in subjective superlative terms. So here we are, handing out a few plaudits for the players, teams, and elements that stick in our memory from Day 1 action in the men’s division.

Best Offense: Pittsburgh

There was not a hotter offense on display in Milwaukee than that of #5 Pittsburgh En Sabah Nur. And the thing is, that statement doesn’t even count their 15-1 dismantling of Connecticut, which was, necessarily, authored almost entirely by the D-line. The real breakout was their final round masterclass against fellow title hopefuls #6 Georgia Jojah.
