D-I Women’s Division

Southwest Showcase

#9 Cal Poly SLO Slo Motion continued their strong start to the season by winning Presidents’ Day Qualifier. We can expect to see them back on the field in two weeks’ time down in San Diego. Top seeded UCLA lost 8-5 in the final.

Over at the Stanford Open, Santa Clara RAGE went just 1-2 in pool play, but stormed through the bracket to win the tournament over top seed Carleton Eclipse. Youth teams Cali Roll (Berkeley) and Seven Hills (Seattle) each won their pools, and Seven Hills took the one-point head-to-head win on Sunday.

Looking Ahead

It’s another quiet week in the women’s division. Just two events are scheduled: Tropical Toss-Up and Rice Antifreeze. Higher level events President’s Day Invite and Queen City Tune Up are coming up in a fortnight.

D-I Men’s Division

A CUT Above

#5 Carleton CUT took down #4 Massachusetts Zoodisc to win Florida Warm Up. Check out the highlights below:

Carleton vs. UMass: 2025 Florida Warm Up Men’s Final Recap

The only other team who have a claim as the weekends’ winners are #17 BYU CHI, who finished the weekend 8-0 but did not compete in the championship bracket per school policy to sit out Sunday play. #11 Texas TUFF and #13 WashU Contra were the other two semifinalists, capping off a strong weekend for the South Central. Ultiworld filmed 21 games from the tournament, which subscribers can watch here. Read about the storylines from Friday’s and Saturday’s action, and stay tuned for a full tournament recap from Edward Stephens, who was on the ground reporting in Gainesville.

Dark Side of the Bracket for UNC

#21 Georgia Tech Tribe stunned #2 UNC Darkside, knocking out the host team in the quarterfinals of Carolina Kickoff. Darkside surely care more about making an 11th straight Nationals semifinal than making semifinals at a January tournament, but it is nevertheless shocking to see them lose a game at all at a tournament that they’ve won every year since 2015. Georgia Tech went on to win the tournament. Tenth seeded South Carolina Gamecock Ultimate went undefeated until losing in the final, knocking off UNC Wilmington Seamen, Ohio State Leadbelly, and UNC Charlotte Skyrise along the way.

Around the Division

  • Stanford Bloodthirsty went undefeated to win Pres Day Quals. Their closest games were against Cal Poly SLO B Slobs and Cal Poly SLO CCWR, a collection of first- and second-year A team players who presumably went to this tournament in an effort to get more high-touch-volume experience.
  • North Texas Flight went undefeated and took home the Big D in Little D title with a 15-10 victory over Baylor Stonewall in the final.

Looking Ahead

There is lots of action for regionals-level teams on the docket. Bulldog Brawl, Gopher Dome, Stanford Open, and NJ Warmup highlight this week’s schedule. President’s Day Invite and Queen City Tune Up await in two weeks’ time.

D-III Women’s Division

First Action of the Season

#1 Carleton Eclipse and #7 Portland UPRoar met at Stanford Open in the first D-III on D-III action this season. Eclipse won the quarterfinal matchup 10-4, and lost to Santa Clara RAGE in the final. Sunday’s run to the final was especially impressive considering Eclipse went 1-3 on Saturday. Portland beat eventual champions Santa Clara in pool play, but could not get past Eclipse to get to a rematch in the final. UPRoar ended up finishing 4th.

Looking Ahead

It’s an exciting weekend for the 7500 club as the D-III Grand Prix is coming up. #1 Carleton Eclipse, #7 Portland UProar, #9 Whitman Sweets, #10 Colorado College Zenith, and #14 Lewis and Clark Artemis will all be in action. Games will be streamed live on YouTube. You can follow the tournament’s Instagram account, @d3grandprix for more information.

While a schedule is not yet posted, #25 Rice Torque are expected to be in attendance at the eponymous Rice Antifreeze, potentially alongside last year’s attendees #17 Trinity Altitude.

D-III Men’s Division

Carleton and Elon Make Season Debuts

#10 Carleton CHOP and #12 Elon Big Fat Bomb were in action this weekend at Carolina Kickoff. Elon went 3-3 with a 13-9 loss to eventual champion Georgia Tech and wins over Georgetown Justice and Ohio State. CHOP also went 3-3, playing close with D-I Nationals contenders NC State Alpha and UNC Wilmington and nabbing wins over Temple Alert and winless Appalachian State Nomads to finish 11th, breaking seed by five spots.

Looking Ahead

The division’s biggest event this week is the D-III Grand Prix. Top 25 teams #4 Whitman Sweets, #7 Lewis & Clark Bacchus, #18 Colorado College Wasabi, #19 Claremont Braineaters, and #24 Colorado School of Mines Entropy will all be in action. Games will be streamed live on YouTube. You can follow the tournament’s Instagram account, @d3grandprix for more information.

Additionally, #13 Berry Bucks, #20 Missourt S&T Miner Threat, and Union Jaxx will compete at Bulldog Brawl. #10 Carleton CHOP will play back-to-back weekends with an appearance at Gopher Dome after playing at Carolina Kickoff this past weekend. #14 Macalester Flat Earth will also compete at Gopher Dome to make their season debut.
