Men’s Division

7. Pitt 13-11 Oregon, Smoky Mountain Invite Pool Play

Pitt took a nosedive in 2025, losing control of the Ohio Valley region and failing to qualify for Nationals. With voters betting on some young talent, transfer additions, and Micah Davis returning from an ACL tear, the preseason rankings slotted En Sabah Nur at #19. They started their season with a 5-3 showing at Florida Warm Up, but with their best win coming against Michigan alongside a blowout loss to Vermont, questions about consistency and ceiling surrounded the Pitt squad.

At Smoky Mountain Invite, En Sabah Nur answered the bell, stunning Oregon in the opening round of pool play, 13-11. Davis and rookie Ezra Beidler-Shenk were unstoppable forces offensively, and junior Julius Clyburn continued to terrorize opposing offenses on the D-line. Pitt followed the upset with a victory over UNC, and the En Sabah Nur resurgence was no longer a question mark.

On a grander scheme, this game also represented the lone loss by one of the country’s top three teams (Colorado, Carleton, Oregon) to a school outside that trio. So with nearly the whole world anticipating those three teams being locks for the semifinals,  if you’re looking for an upset to pick in your Nationals bracket, maybe keep an eye on Pitt…or on the flip side, maybe see who draws Oregon in a quarterfinal.
