Club Power Rankings [August 11, 2021]

A mostly quiet week in the club division sees just a single move in three Top 25s.

Each week, we’ll post an updated edition of our Power Rankings here on the front page to facilitate discussion in the comments and help us share each week’s rankings via social media. The most up-to-date version can always be found on our permanent rankings page.

Our 2021 Club Power Rankings are presented by ARIA Discs, who believes ultimate is more than a sport — it’s a community. You can join ARIA to change the world through ultimate.

Women’s Discussion

  • With no ranked teams in action this past weekend, there are no changes to the women’s Top 25 this week.

Men’s Discussion

  • Seattle Sockeye and Chicago Machine may have solidified their spots atop the Power Rankings this week at the US Open, but results from elsewhere around the National Sports Center shook up the Top 25. Blaine semifinalists Atlanta Chain Lightning and Minneapolis Sub Zero see the biggest jumps of the week, up to #4 and #5 respectively. Going the other direction were New York PoNY, Portland Rhino Slam!, and Boston Dig, each dropping at least four spots on the board.
  • The back end of the Top 25 also saw some changes as Philadelphia Phoenix FC replace crosstown rivals Phantom as the top team in the City of Brotherly Love. Tennessee Tanasi also make their 2021 debut in the rankings, replacing a Dallas Flash Flood program that put up disappointing results at the US Open, albeit without some key contributors.

Mixed Discussion

  • While no ranked teams were in action this past week, the impressive roster release from Chicago U54 demanded their inclusion in our Top 25. They initially slot in at #20 — behind three other regional competitors — at least until we see what they look like on the field. The one-bid Great Lakes is shaping up to be one of the most exciting regions to follow come Series time, which has not always been the case.
  • Former #25 San Francisco Polar Bears drop out to make space for U54, but will have the opportunity to immediately earn their way back onto the board this weekend at SFI West, where four other ranked teams will also take to the fields in Norco to give us an early-season look at the pecking order out West. Also in action this weekend for the first time in 2021 is #10 Asheville Superlame.
