Club Power Rankings [Final 2019]

See how teams stack as we head into the offseason.

After the dust has settled from Nationals, we’re back with the final Club Power Rankings of 2019!

We post each updated edition here on the front page to facilitate discussion in the comments and serve as a permalink for that week’s rankings. The most up-to-date version can always be found on our permanent rankings page.

Men’s Discussion

  • Seattle Sockeye completes a dominant season having been atop our Power Rankings for 9 out of 12 updates over the course of the season. They are indeed worthy champions.
  • Despite an up-and-down season, Chicago Machine end up about where we expected in the preseason, finishing at #2 — one spot ahead of their preseason rank. Raleigh Ring of Fire, New York PoNY, and Washington DC Truck Stop round out a largely consistent Top 5.
  • The biggest movers from Nationals are Portland Rhino Slam!, whose impressive quarterfinal fight against the reigning champs and overall Pro Flight finish sees them up seven spots to #8. Everything below them remains relatively stable from our post-Regionals rankings set.

Mixed Discussion

  • Thanks to an unpredictable Nationals, we see big shakeups throughout our Top 10. Philadelphia AMP finish the year atop our Power Rankings for the second consecutive year, a spot that hadn’t occupied since late July. San Francisco Mischief also ascend, finishing the season in their highest-ever perch in our Power Rankings at #2.
  • Pro Flight qualifiers Seattle BFG, Fort Collins shame., Dallas Public Enemy, and Asheville Superlame move up to comfortably inside our top 10 after mostly impressive performances in San Diego.
  • It was a horrid season finale for Boston mixed ultimate, as all of Wild Card, Snake Country, and Slow White fall at least five spots, with only the former retaining a foothold in the year-end Top 10.
  • Placement between 15 and 20 proved to be the hardest part of our final rankings set of 2019, as results in many cases strongly contradict season-long strength according to the algorithm. Surprising Nationals qualifiers mingle with the top teams that were left at home, and we wouldn’t quibble with almost any reordering of this cohort.

Women’s Discussion

  • For all the fuss about upheaval at the top end of the women’s division this season, the year ends with familiar faces topping the list once again: Boston Brute Squad and San Francisco Fury return to their usual spots as the Top 2.
  • As was the case in the men’s division, Portland was among the big winners from Nationals as Schwa moves up to finish inside the Top 5, their highest-ever appearance in our Power Rankings. They take the spot vacated by Denver Molly Brown, whose fantastic regular season did not translate to success in San Diego.
  • Elsewhere, Minneapolis Pop‘s performance at Nationals sees them climb to #16 both in our Power Rankings and the algorithm. They were the biggest movers since Regionals, up seven pots on our board. Going the other direct were Atlanta Ozone, whose shockingly winless Nationals sees them slide all the way to #17.
