Women’s Discussion

  • In an exceedingly rare occurrence, Pittsburgh Parcha jumped a remarkable 17 spots to blast into the top 10 by reaching the final at PEC East. They overcame higher ranked Phoenix and 6ixers in a banner weekend for the program and a wonderful kickoff to their season. Could they be 2025’s breakout club?
  • The other big riser was Northampton Starling, who topped Kelp and nearly felled BENT in quarterfinals at PEC East. Coming within a goal of the club’s signature win in their brief history is impressive and Starling is showing signs they might finally be ready to reach the Club Championships.

Men’s Discussion

  • The big story out of PEC East was PoNY looking absolutely fantastic in an undefeated win, with new additions Ben Dameron and Anders Juengst shining on the O-line. It is only a one spot jump, but PoNY leapfrogs a Rhino team coming off a championship victory where they crushed this very New York club. Get ready for the regular season horse race!
  • Vault and Sub Zero each earned statement wins over Southeast clubs — over Ring of Fire and Chain Lightning, respectively. That earned the Virginia team a nine-spot push and Sub Zero rose seven positions. A 13-12 quarterfinal for Sub Zero over Vault landed them right next to each other.
  • GOAT’s additions from Europe (many of whom at featured on the UFA’s Toronto Rush) and a pair of consolation wins over Vault and Ring of Fire helped power them up five spots. Glory has evaded this storied program as of late, but the early returns are good.
  • Chain Lightning, Johnny Bravo, and Ring of Fire each faced tough conditions with light crews, but had pretty inexcusably poor showings. It isn’t time to write any of them off by any means, but results matter.

Mixed Discussion

  • You’re kidding, there’s another team that rose 17 spots? This time it was Durham Toro, who won PEC East with an impressively renewed roster. Wins over Disco Club, Sprocket, Slow, and Shine will play well both in our rankings and the USA Ultimate rankings, and mark Toro as the early season breakout club that, if they sustain it, could be in the mix for Nationals bracket run.
  • Fellow Southeast club and PEC East finalist, Nashville ‘Shine, also went up double-digit spots to break into the top 10. A 13-10 win over Hybrid was their most visible triumph. This squad has garnered a lot of experience over the last few seasons and their early season success, along with Toro’s bodes well for the Southeast’s bid chances, a welcome comfort for a region that’s been beset by postseason surprises at bid-stricken Regionals.
  • Hybrid were a firm #1, until they weren’t, falling five spots to leave the top five. They lost to both XIST and ‘Shine, though they were the only team to topple Toro at the tournament. Still, the bar is very high for them, and this shaky start could lead to some sell offs in their stock.
  • A 3-3 PEC East showing for Disco Club send them tumbling down the rankings. They didn’t really deliver any convincing wins, either. They did manage to keep their Toro and Hybrid losses close, the top ranked teams that they faced, but lost 14-8 to Mile High Trash, as well, which should spark some in-region intrigue.
