D-I Women’s Division Discussion

  • Two top three teams fell down after losing the QCTU semifinals: Vermont dropped six spots while reigning champion UNC resides at #6. That opened space for the Presidents’ Day champs, UBC, to slide up one spot to the top the poll and Tufts bounced up six spots to #2 as the QCTU winners.
  • But the prize for the week’s biggest mover goes to UC Santa Cruz, who gained eight spots on the way to a top 10 placement at #8. This is the highest ranking the team has ever achieved. Could they be the favorite in the Southwest?
  • Speaking of the Southwest, the regional ladder shuffled. A Devin Quinn-less UCSB fell behind UC Davis and UCLA entered at #23 after beating UCSB at PDI.
  • Joining UCLA as new entrants to the top 25, Texas won their way in at #25, beating BYU on the Presidents’ Day that PDI references and playing close in other matchups. Wisconsin (struggled at QCTU) and Georgia Tech (inactive, but playing this upcoming weekend) both dropped from the rankings.

D-I Men’s Division Discussion

  • The big winner for the weekend was surprise Presidents’ Day Invite semifinalist Northeastern. They rose 10 spots to #11, their highest ranking since 2022. Wins over Colorado and Washington, and a strong eye test, are the building blocks of an impressive resume.
  • The top five shifted, as Colorado (down to #8) and Cal Poly SLO (to #6) fell from their spots after Colorado was knocked out in semis following a one-goal victory over SLO in quarters. UNC moved up three spots after winning QCTU dominantly to get back into the top 5.
  • UC Santa Cruz reentered the rankings in a big way after two PDI wins over Cal and another over Oregon State. The bounce-back performance landed them at #16.
  • The rest of the QCTU semis crop wound up bunched together. South Carolina reached #19, above a Wash U team who they bested in semis. Contra fell eight spots, disappointing after looking strong at Florida Warm Up. And Penn State sits above both after a three-spot fall resulting from getting crushed by UNC.
  • Victoria fell from the top 25 after an up-and-down Presidents’ Day Invite where they nearly beat Colorado on day one and lost to Colorado State on day two.

D-III Women’s Division Discussion

  • Kenyon’s 62-8 aggregate score from an undefeated run through the lower bracket of Commonwealth Cup 1 may have come against a limited field, but was impressive enough to get them into the top 25 at the final spot.
  • Scranton is a fun inclusion and is absolutely a threat to knock off any OV team in the Series, but given we won’t see them until then, any ranking seems speculative. We bumped them from the rankings until we see them compete.

D-III Men’s Division Discussion

  • A slight underperformance by Davidson at Commonwealth Cup 1 — a W/L split with Pitt B and a 13-9 loss to Elon — pushed them down one spot as the week’s only change.
