There are a lot more titles up for grabs than the one at Nationals. With ten D-I Regional championships on the line, and spots at Nationals beyond that, a large group of teams with varying goals are geared up for battle this spring.
We go region by region and break down the teams in the mix, the players that could make a difference, and the stories to keep an eye on.
Atlantic Coast
It’s hard to discern who will be walking away at the top of the Atlantic Coast in April. #3 North Carolina has been far and away the best team in the region since 2015, currently riding a six-year run of appearances in the national semifinals. But their regional dominance may not be a given this season. With so many young rookies on their roster, Darkside will be spending a lot less time refining their system with a championship in mind and a lot more time developing the players they have into new roles. The initiative then falls to #10 NC State and #15 UNC Wilmington — who’ve both developed very deep and experienced squads over the last couple of years — to apply pressure on UNC and try to end Darkside’s Atlantic Coast reign.
