D-I Women’s Division Discussion

  • This week’s movement focuses largely on Southwest Regionals, which makes sense given their density of top teams. The big winner was UCLA, who gained four spots to #13 after notching wins over both UCSD and Cal Poly SLO, giving us a neat ordering for the trio. That means a sizable drop for UC San Diego, who also took a pair of one-goal losses to SLO.
  • There was too much Southwest to fit into one bullet point! After the previous cohort of Nationals qualifiers, there was much competition among UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, and California. UCSB emerged atop the group, earning them a spot at #20. UC Davis narrowly hangs onto a top 25 spot on the back of the strength of their prior resume.
  • Georgia’s dominant showing at Southeast Regionals, including a 15-8 final over Florida, pushed them up four spots to #21, while also knocking out their Gainesville foes. But we really won’t have a great sense of this team’s level until we see them in Illinois.

D-I Men’s Division Discussion

  • Texas earned some credit with another year of pushing Colorado to the brink in a competitive South Central showdown. While you could ding them for nearly having their season ended early by Colorado State, injuries make that perhaps a less representative result, and TUFF beat CSU 15-7 in pool play.
  • A dramatic universe point win in North Central semifinals pushed Minnesota up to #20. While many were eying Wisconsin as the top challenger to Carleton in the region, Minnesota proved they deserve respect. Although it turned out neither really had anything to offer CUT.
  • The Southwest, with four total ranked teams and two in the top 10, and only two bids, did produce some interesting results. Cal Poly SLO took down UC Santa Cruz in a tight final, flipping their positions but keeping them close together. Meanwhile, UCLA dropped universe point games to both Cal and Stanford. Bloodthirsty also beat Cal 15-12, bringing them back into the top 25 at #22.

D-III Women’s Division Discussion

  • Mount Holyoke’s impressive run at New England Regionals earned them not only a bid to Nationals, but a big rise in the rankings. Not only did Daisy Chain navigate three close bracket matchups, including winning the game to go 11-9 versus Amherst, but they even played close with Middlebury, falling 13-11. After a less than stellar regular season, MHC looks back.
  • On the flip side of Mount Holyoke’s rise is Wellesley’s fall. Back-to-back crucial losses to Amherst and Williams doomed the Whiptails to another early end to their season, and they dropped to #19.
  • The Ohio Valley non-qualifiers made some waves with their results. Cedarville established themselves as the clear class of the trio with Scranton and Oberlin, earning clean wins over both. Meanwhile, Scranton was able to beat Oberlin handily and even challenge Kenyon.

D-III Men’s Division Discussion

  • Both Carleton CHOP and Oklahoma Christian claimed their respective region’s title, but the two swap spots thanks to the strength of CHOP’s victories, which included holding #7 Macalester to just seven goals.
  • Sticking with the North Central, St. Olaf retained a Nationals bid but slip behind Macalester after getting thumped by Flat Earth 15-8 in semifinals.
  • Other teams were not so lucky. Southeast bid-earners Ave Maria were upset in the final by Berry 14-12 to miss out on a trip to Waukegan after dropping down to compete in D-III for 2026. Colorado College did not even make the game-to-go, falling to Truman state in 2nd place semis. While JujiTSU would also not make Nationals, losing to Colorado Mines in the game-to-go, they do earn a spot in the top 25 for their efforts.
  • Kenyon, expected to challenge Franciscan for the Ohio Valley’s one bid, also drop after failing to make the final, losing 12-10 to Oberlin in semis.
  • Rochester rebounded from a rough conferences showing that left them seeded 13th at Metro East Regionals to claim the lone bid, beating top-seeded Skidmore, bid-earners Wesleyan, and favorites Ithaca. The latter two drop out of the rankings, leaving a red carpet for the Piggies to enter on.
